J. Steven Greene
Director of Development/Big Ten Network & I FUND Major Gifts
Serving in his eighteenth year with the Office of Athletic Development, Steve Greene ('76) recently returned to the central Illinois area from Chicago, where he managed the Chicago I FUND office for over 13 years. Now based in Champaign, Steve has assumed new responsibilities for the management of the Big Ten Network for the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics. As such, he will serve as a liaison to the BTN, helping to produce programming which will benefit the athletic department and the University of Illinois.
Concurrently, Steve will continue to serve as Director of Development, performing fundraising and public relation functions on behalf of the department throughout the state of Illinois, as well as the east coast in New York, Washington, D.C., and the state of Florida. In addition, he serves as coordinator of the major gifts program and the capital campaign, with priorities for enhancing facilities, increasing endowment and I FUND revenues for scholarships and academic services, and developing investment by donors through wills and other methods of planned giving.
Prior to joining the DIA, Greene spent 10 years with the United Way in Decatur, IL. and Findlay, OH, where he last served as Chief Professional Officer for the United Way of Hancock County from 1987-1991. A standout fullback on the Illinois football team from 1972-75, Greene was a four year letter winner under head coach Bob Blackman. He finished his career at Illinois with 25 career starts and ranks 24th on the list of all-time leading rushers with 1,228 yards.
